"At the risk of oversimplifying, Dabrowski's theory states that the intense anxiety, depression, and inner conflict experienced by some people are not necessarily mental disorders to be treated. Instead, they are necessary for psychological growth and authentic personality development. When people reject basic biological impulses (the "me" first impulse) and societal norms (peer pressure) and create their own hierarchy of ethics and morals, they are basically deconstructing the parts of their beliefs that they find undesirable and replacing them with new beliefs that are more inline with how they believe the world ought to be.
